"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
Carl Rogers

Understanding my approach

CBT is a NICE recommended therapy for a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD and trauma. In sessions, our focus is on understanding the thinking and behavioural patterns that maintain your distress so we can change them.

My focus is to take a historical look at understanding how the unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours you find yourself in, may have developed. Perhaps you have a history of childhood trauma, bullying, neglect or other adverse life events. Together we explore not only what has happened to you but also, the impact these events had on how you see yourself, others and your future.

With this clearer understanding in mind, our sessions will then focus on change. I believe that you are an expert in what has happened to you and how this is affecting your life and my strength lies in supporting you with tools and coping mechanisms that help you feel great about yourself.

In therapy and coaching, I draw upon principles from a range of CBT-related therapies such as Mindfulness-based CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment theory, Schema Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I do not believe your experiences should fit a model but rather that we should integrate theory and strategies that work for you.

I am on a mission to help you overcome unresolved childhood issues that are impacting you and your relationships in the here and now. The goal is to help you create happy and fulfilling relationships with yourself and others!

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

You may have people-pleasing tendencies, perfectionism, high-functioning anxiety, difficulty trusting others or even feel low about yourself. Whatever it may be, in CBT therapy we explore the origins and the maintaining factors of these so that you can learn tools and strategies to navigate these. I incorporate ideas from ACT, Mindfulness, CFT and Schema Therapy in the work I do.

Relationship Coaching

Relationships do not happen by magic despite Hollywood movies trying to tell us otherwise. We bring to our relationships our beliefs and response patterns which often contribute to the conflict we experience. In coaching, we delve deep into exploring these patterns and focusing on how to better respond so that we can maintain happy, fulfilling relationships.

Supervision & Mentoring

I love teaching and sharing my knowledge of psychotherapy. As such, I provide supervision to other therapists, trainees or qualified, who are venturing out into private practice and want honest, transparent supervision that cuts through the nonsense.

About Therapy
and
Coaching

What is CBT?

CBT is a type of therapy that looks at the interconnectedness between our thoughts, feelings and responses to situations. It sets to understand how these influence each other to maintain our difficulties. Oftentimes, when we experience anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, self-esteem issues, we inadvertedly enter vicious cycles that maintain our problems. We often do not realise this as our aim is to get relief from our symptoms, but in the long term we actually make our problems worse. In CBT, we look at how we are creating these vicious cycles and then aim to break free from them by changing the way we think and respond to people and situations.

Who is CBT for?

Therapy is for anyone who is ready and willing to explore different parts of themselves, understand how past life experience have shaped their beliefs, triggers, responses to situations. Ultimately you want to work on learning to reframe unhelpful thoughts, stop self-sabotage and learn to feel safe in your body and around others. Unfortunately, I am not able to provide you support if you are actively self-harming, have thoughts or plans to end your life, or are currently misusing drugs or alcohol.

What transformation can I expect in therapy?

By entering therapy, you will be able to develop a deeper awareness and insight into your issues, stop self-sabotaging behaviour, learn to challenge unhelpful beliefs, feel safe in your body and around others and have better relationships with yourself and others.

What is relationship coaching?

Relationship coaching is for people who solely want to focus on having healthier relationships with themselves and others. In relationship coaching you can learn to set healthy boundaries, communicate assertively, navigate conflict and manage feelings of abandonment, jealousy and/or resentment.

Can you see couples?

I am also trained as a CBT Couples therapist and I am currently furthering my knowledge by studying Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman method. I only see couples face to face from my therapy room in Finchley Central, N3.
